I'll open the very first production blog for MILA'S FOUNTAIN having just recently returned from camera and lighting tests at our stunning, secret location in interior British Columbia. Our scouting team, made up of director Nils Sorensen, producer Leanne Schinkel, director of photography Preston Kanak (3MinuteShorts.ca and assistant editor at PhilipBloom.net), and still photographer Rene Prefontaine (RenePrefontaine.com) spent five days traversing the majesty of the Creston Valley in British Columbia, Canada - prime landscape for epic fantasy!
In fact, upon discovering the location and surrounding area one year ago we were immediately inspired to delve deeper into our core story and expand our characters’ time onscreen, eventually elevating the project from its humble beginning as a short film into the 11-part digital series it is today. As a project set in a fantasy world apart from (but inspired by) our own, the decision to utilize an emerging narrative web format was not lightly made, but the full journey of Mila and the Wanderer, previously only in ruffled notes about backstory, has been committed to script as a result.
While shooting we utilized some Kessler gear (CineSlider and Crane), a Glidecam HD-4000, and a hell of a lot of bug spray. Having shot for numerous nights, it was a treat to finally see the fruits of our imagination laid out before our eyes. We will be releasing a teaser trailer in the coming months, but for now… here is the first official peak at Mila’s hallowed fountain.
We also traveled to Toronto recently to showcase the series at Fan Expo Canada 2011 and begin to spread the word with fellow fantasy fans and creators alike. We gave away some shirts, met some great people, and had a sneak peak of our teaser footage playing. One excited spectator summed up our own feelings quite nicely when she commented, "I've never seen a web series like this before!" We couldn't agree more. This is just the beginning.
